General Ride Information

IMPORTANT: In-Person Ride Participants - ONLY you and your horses are allowed on the trails at GMHA.

Virtual "Ride What You Want" participants, this is all Non-Horseback Riders (ie cyclists), you must ride elsewhere.

Q. When is the Ride?
A. The Ride will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023. For in-person riders, there will be a Mandatory Ride Meeting held at 9 AM. All in-person riders at GMHA are asked to begin their trail ride between 9:30-9:45 AM.

Q. Where is the Ride?
A. The Ride is being held in-person for Adults(18 yrs. +) and Youth (ages 12-17) Riders (must be accompanied by a registered Adult rider), at the Green Mountain Horse Association in South Woodstock, Vermont. Registered Virtual Riders may #RideWhereYouAre.

Stalling information as follows: GMHA members $30 per night; Non-members $45 per night; Day stalls $10; Shavings $10/bag and Hay $10/bale. Payment (checks made out to "GMHA") are expected to be given to Susan G. Komen representative on site (Linda Maness). Stall reservations need to be made with Linda by October 6 by e-mail LManess@komen.org. Should GMHA determine a stall to be left "unstripped" after the event, $50 will be billed to the responsible rider.

Q. How much is the registration fee?
A. Registration is free at https://komen.org/vermontride Day of event in-person registration available between 7:45 - 8:45 AM. Riders MUST provide evidence of rabies shot and negative Coggins test, as well as donate minimum fundraising level of Adults $150 and Youth $75. GMHA waiver will require signature to take part. Virtual Riders may register online through Monday, October 10 at 12 PM.

Q. What is included in the registration?
A. You will get a Susan G. Komen Ride for the CureŽ t-shirt, a gift bag, an opportunity to take part on-site fundraising activities, and a really good feeling from participating!

Q. How long is the Ride?
A. The 2023 Vermont Ride for the Cure is meant to be a scenic pleasure trail ride. Riders at Green Mountain Horse Association in South Woodstock may expect a ride length between 5-9 miles, depending on Fall trail conditions. If you are unable to ride, you may donate to the event.

Q. Are there requirements for Rider and Horse?
A. Yes, up-to-date (within one year of the Ride date (Oct. 9, 2023) Negative Coggins & Rabies evidence (per GMHA requirement) and a signed GMHA waiver MUST be e-mailed to Linda Maness at LManess@komen.org by October 9. A signed GMHA waiver MUST also be e-mailed to Linda Maness at LManess@komen.org by October 8. HELMETS are required to ride at GMHA. Youth Riders ages 12-17 MUST be accompanied by a registered Adult rider.

Q. How can I become a volunteer?
A. The success of any fundraising event depends on support received from volunteers, and the Komen Vermont Ride for the Cure is no exception. The are many volunteer opportunities leading up to the day of the Ride - raffle prize solicitation, business sponsorship pursuit, breakfast and lunch assistance- and onsite opportunities on the day of Ride, Monday, Oct. 9.

Q. Are pet and strollers allowed at the event?
A. Pets, other than your Horse, are prohibited from the event.

Q. What if it rains?
A. Susan G. Komen holds the right to cancel or change the date or location of the Ride in its sole discretion, including in the circumstance of extreme weather. It is likely, however, that the event will happen rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.

Fundraising FAQ

Q. Does the Komen Ride for the Cure® require fundraising?
A. Yes, all registered riders are required to fundraise. For 2023, we continue to require the following minimum fundraising levels: Adults/Survivors - Minimum fundraising level: $150 and Youth (ages 12-17) - Minimum fundraising level: $75. All minimum fundraising amounts are expected to be met by the day of the Ride, October 9. Check donations should be made payable to: Susan G. Komen, with memo: 2023 VT Ride. Please see below for: “Where do I send donations”.

Q. Where does the money (donations) go?
A. Donations help Susan G. Komen get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. Funds raised through the Vermont Ride for the Cure support Komen's work to save lives through breakthrough research, advocacy and to direct-patients services, including through Komen’s Breast Care Navigation Program, Komen's Breast Care Helpline, Clinical Trial Information Helpline, and Financial Assistance Program.

Q. Where do I send donations?
A. Donating online is encouraged. However, we recognize that some donors prefer to donate by check/money order. These should be made payable to Susan G. Komen and mailed, with a completed VT Ride Pledge Form to:

All checks and money orders should include memo: 2023 VT RIDE and the participant’s name.

IMPORTANT: cash should NOT be mailed - all cash donations should be turned in as a money order or personal check (made payable to Susan G. Komen), with memo “2023 VT Ride” and participant’s name AND include complete donor information per donation on a pledge form.

Q. Is there a deadline for fundraising?
A. Komen Vermont Ride for the Cure fundraising will continue through November 9.

All donations made on your behalf that are received by October 8, 2022 will be credited to your personal fundraising total, this includes donations entered online through your Participant Center and Facebook fundraiser (if you created one). Donations collected/entered online after Oct. 8 will not count towards a fundraising prize, but will count towards the event’s fundraising total. Q. When will I receive my fundraising incentives?
A. Your fundraising prize will be calculated based on the total fundraising dollars you have collected and submitted (online and entered offline) by Oct. 8. Prizes will be announced on Ride Day, October 9. In-person riders will receive their fundraising recognition at GMHA; Virtual riders will have their fundraising recognition mailed post-event.
